By 2024, the RAIN Alliance is expected to sell 58-83 billion RAIN RFID tags worldwide

Lucy RFID WORLD NET 2021-06-18 16:21:36
When it comes to the use of UHF radio frequency identification technology, the current global COVID-19 pandemic seems to be another catalyst in the expanding industry market. According to the recently released RAIN RFID market research report, a total of 21 billion RAIN RFID tag ICs will be sold globally in 2020, an increase of 15% over 2019.

These data not only exceed all industry forecasts, but also indicate that the demand for RAIN RFID solutions in the future market will continue to rise-especially when these solutions can help the world to accelerate the world through this unprecedented epidemic.
Technical research and consulting company VDC is commissioned by the RAIN Alliance to conduct research on various market segments of the RFID market and determine the level of demand for RFID solutions. VDC Research Executive Vice President David Krebs explained that researching the RFID market is complicated because it is an ecosystem with different levels of participants, and it is important to truly understand these levels.

In order to thoroughly understand the industry layout, VDC interviewed major industry players such as IC suppliers and inlay manufacturers, label production equipment and reader suppliers, retailers and brand owners, because only they really understand the market. Based on this research and collection, they proposed three market prospects based on different scenarios for the UHF radio frequency identification field. Even the most optimistic one was surpassed by the significant increase in actual sales at the end of 2020. Krebs said that he was a little surprised to see the industry's performance in the face of the challenge of the epidemic.

Garment Industry
For a long time, RFID solutions have performed well in clothing store management and retail inventory management. However, during the new crown pneumonia epidemic, retailers in the apparel industry that have incorporated RFID technology into some links began to adopt overall RFID solutions. Krebs explained to this that retailers believe that since they have already seeded the market, they also want to continue to explore whether they can use this technology to achieve more. Therefore, for a time, the self-service pick-up function and the BOPIS model were established, and the RFID solution system began to help the clothing store become a distribution center, and it was also applied to multiple links such as store management, return management, and customer participation.
In addition to the clothing industry, RFID solutions also play a role in many other fields, such as the food industry, aviation industry, medical industry and so on. Compared with these industries, the impact of RFID solutions in the apparel industry is still relatively small. It's just that the apparel industry is a relatively fast and relatively complete item in the current RFID application field.
Below is a sample of some industries and how they integrate RFID solutions in their fields (especially during the epidemic):

No.1 Medical industry
In the crisis of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, location-based RFID real-time tracking solutions can prevent nurses from wasting time on finding medical equipment, especially in the case of emergency rescue.

Smart refrigeration technology is also under development. This technology can read tags at the low temperatures required for BioNTech/Pfizer vaccines.

Implementing RFID solutions to label medications, improve point-of-care facilities, and build smart cabinets can help medical staff focus on their patients better.

No.2 Aviation Industry
At the worst of the epidemic, borders were closed and airports closed, but some airport operators used the down cycle to deploy RFID solutions to upgrade their infrastructure. Once the trip returns to normal, passengers can enjoy RFID-based luggage tracking services and better communication with airlines to enjoy their journey.
No.3 Parcel distribution
During the lockdown period, the number of parcels continued to grow exponentially. Therefore, in order to strengthen the effective management of parcels, the logistics industry's demand for corresponding RFID solutions has also increased.

No.4 Food industry
Fast food restaurants are also beginning to adopt RFID technology-not at the level of burgers and buns, but labeling on burger trays. This temperature-based distribution and supply helps solve problems such as food corruption.
By 2024, the RAIN Alliance is expected to sell 58-83 billion RAIN RFID tags worldwide. As the market's demand for RFID solutions increases, the actual cost of this technology will also decrease, making it affordable for the general public, and the solution will become easier to integrate, thereby further promoting the adoption of various industries and markets. The market demand for both contactless payment solutions and real-time tracking RFID solutions is increasing. Krebs said: "We are quite optimistic about the long-term prospects of this technology."
